In this post, there is a script for a full moon ritual. The ritual is done with materials from the Hellenistic world, combined with additional New Age and astral magic elements. The structure of the ritual is the purification, New Age elements, astral magic elements, Hellenistic elements, and license to depart. The ritual starts with an opening, moves on to a releasing statement, intentions, visualization, meditation, affirmations, then an Orphic hymn, a request, and after that the moon’s correspondences in iambic hexameter, a chant, a simple request, some lines about the nature of new moons, the moon’s correspondences in hexameter, and a license to depart. The correspondences span quite a few areas, from numbers, astrology, gods, vowels, characteristics, animals, planets, perfumes, incenses, melothesia, and stones. A few elements of the tradition have been omitted, such as angel names and spirit names associated with the Moon. Only a few lunar deities are included in the ritual. Compilations of the sources can be found in the books, The Complete Magician’s Tables and The Greek Qabalah. These two books used a number of primary sources. The ritual script is part of a series of four scripts for new moon and full moon rituals. For the full moon, there are two scripts, this one, which is modernistic astral magic, and a second Hellenistic ritual. The ritual outline follows, with the ritual script, and bibliography.

Purification
Take khernips that have been prepared. Sprinkle the khernips on the sacred space and altar while saying the following sentence three times:
“O theoi gnoisthe apotrofoi kakon.”
Then, light a candle, while saying:
“I light this sacred flame of which Hephastios is father and Hestia is mother.”
Opening
Face the east.
“Today is (Date: Month/ Day/ Year). The Sun is in (Zodiac Sign). It is (Season). On this occasion of a Full Moon, I will call the celestial deity, the Moon.”
Read the Releasing Statement aloud.
Releasing Statement
“This is a time of culmination, release, and endings. At this point of brightness, a new phase begins. The waning phase starts and with it things will lessen, contract, and disappear.
During these next few weeks, I will continue my daily routines. I will __________________.
The Moon will go through its phases, from the Full Moon to the Waning Gibbous, Third Quarter, and the Waning Crescent, and back to another New Moon.
Help me to be mindful of your waning phase, its effect on the sublunar realm, and your movements in the heavens.
Help me to see your archetypal qualities of love, compassion, nurturing, safety, giving, rearing, and caring in my daily life.
Give me your blessings.
I request release, letting go, and endings as the waning phase continues and light decreases.
I hope to purge the following intentions in this lunation cycle, which I will write out now.”
Do the Intentions List.
Writing an Intentions List
Prepare a sheet of paper. Before using it in the ritual, it would be best to consecrate the paper. Do a consecration ritual for the paper and a writing utensil. Using the consecrated pen and paper, write the date and possibly additional time relevant info. Write an affirming statement such as: “I accept these things as I wish them or in higher manifestations for my own good and for the good of those involved.” Then, write down the intentions you have for the waning phase period. These can be: any things you want to get rid of, any people you want to leave your life, spiritual goals related to purging, areas of life you would like to decrease and to lessen, and so forth. After writing them down, you can ponder each one for a period of time, chant them, or do a special thing with the paper. The paper can be tied to a stick and burnt, or tied to a balloon and released into the air. You can try other ways to release them into the physical world.
Visualization
Sit or stand in a comfortable position. Imagine your first goal or intention to be purged or released for the period of the waning phase of the moon. Watch it materialize in front of you. Take one image or choose a symbol to symbolize the event. Look for it to appear, its outlines first. Then look as it gets clearer, and color starts to fill the image Now, continue looking as it appears fully clear, in color. After looking at the image for a short time, you can imagine it disappearing, first the color then the outlines. Watch the thing you have visualized as it is destroyed by fire or water. Repeat the process with two more intentions. If it is desired and there is time, do it with all of your intentions.
Meditation
Sit in a comfortable position. Set a timer. Keep your eyes open or close them. Stay in the same position until the allotted time has expired. The period of time set aside for meditation can be anywhere from fifteen minutes to an hour, depending on the time available for the rest of the ritual and any other circumstances.
Affirmations
I am mindful of the decay and degeneration of plants and other living organisms as the moon decreases in light.
I know I will purge and release anything I deem worthy of disappearing from my life during this lunation.
The same way the light decreases, the parts of my life that are not necessary will also decrease, weaken, and eventually disappear.
I purge everything I want to within this waning cycle.
I am aware of events that occurred before this lunation and am mindful of what I want to achieve on this one.
Each day, I am considerate and think of others first.
On a daily basis, I am empathetic and compassionate.
I know my body, both its pains and its pleasures. I know its physical existence. I am aware of each breath, each step, and the light of day.
I am always kind to women and children. I am benevolent and helpful to the young.
During this lunar phase, I am aligned with cuteness. Simplicity and childishness are part of my inner DNA.
Nowadays, I am emotionally mature, have emotional depth, and exert emotional control. In other words, I am a master of emotions, able to feel, yet in control at all times.
I am maternal, giving, and nurturing. I am the cosmic mother.
I am able to let go of all the necessary parts of my life.
Read the Orphic Hymn to the Moon aloud.
Orphic Hymn to the Moon
“Hear, Goddess queen, diffusing silver light, bull-horn’d and wand’ring thro’ the gloom of Night.
With stars surrounded, and with circuit wide Night’s torch extending, thro’ the heav’ns you ride:
Female and Male with borrow’d rays you shine, and now full-orb’d, now tending to decline.
Mother of ages, fruit-producing Moon [Mene], whose amber orb makes Night’s reflected noon:
Lover of horses, splendid, queen of Night, all-seeing pow’r bedeck’d with starry light.
Lover of vigilance, the foe of strife, in peace rejoicing, and a prudent life:
Fair lamp of Night, its ornament and friend, who giv’st to Nature’s works their destin’d end.
Queen of the stars, all-wife Diana hail! Deck’d with a graceful robe and shining veil;
Come, blessed Goddess, prudent, starry, bright, come moony-lamp with chaste and splendid light,
Shine on these sacred rites with prosp’rous rays, and pleas’d accept thy suppliant’s mystic praise.”1
Request to the Moon
“Mighty, nearby silver moon, I offer you some precious things
offerings of fire, smoke, water, and salt,
kind words of praise and mindful connectedness,
I give this/these(name of offerings).
Next, I shall make a request(s).
First, I request you give me _________(blessings).

Next, the Moon’s Correspondences, which are in iambic hexameter, are read.

License to Depart
“Mighty Selene, oh eminent lunar deity, you are free to go back to your abode. The new moon ritual is over, celestial goddess. Thank you for your presence and blessings.”
Blow out the candles and extinguish the incense, and momentarily exit the space, even in a symbolic way, if not otherwise possible. Leave the offerings and clean up the space.
